Unending Universe #4

Due to the large number of questions about why the server is down and about the future of the game itself, i want to write you a few words of my thoughts.

I was aware that the game has flaws (and what they are). Despite this, i decided that it is worth releasing it now, so that players can see it and evaluate it. I naively believed that no one would think of hacking (which was very easy) a niche, little-known indie game that is just starting to get going. The game was free. I didn’t want anything from players except good fun and decent behavior. Unfortunately, there will always be those who don’t fully respect these things. They have to cheat somehow (multi-accounts), dig into the code... They have to prove that something can be broken. But why? What does it give? What do they want to prove with this?

I played BSGO for about 7, 8 years and it never occurred to me to hack this game. I simply played and had fun with what the game offers, which is why i am disappointed with the attitude of these people. If this is how my game's community is going to look like, then i don't want this game to be created.

As for the offer of help on YouTube (the user writes "We" so it must be from the perpetrators of this whole mess). I appreciate it, but i'm working on this game alone, at my own pace. It's very convenient and i don't want to change that. Besides, no offense, after all this i just don't trust you.

A note to the players who followed the rules while playing Unending Universe: i don't forget about you. I have your emails and maybe we'll meet again on the path of Humans and Lokans.

At this point i'm considering two scenarios.

First is to keep the game alive. Introduce a strict regime for creating accounts. Fix the bugs, which may take some time, but there's no guarantee that something else will be hacked in a moment. Honestly, i can improve this game as much as i want, but even home-grown hackers have programs that will eventually cope with my code. Then i have to make more patches, and they'll break them anyway, and so on and so forth... I'm not interested in that kind of fun. I'm not Blizzard or Bethesda, and i don't have a team of people who catch things like that.

Second scenario is that the game will be closed and will end up at the bottom of my portfolio.

Minus - it's a waste of a cool game

Plus - it's definitely better than dealing with people who don't like to respect the rules. I'll have the problem solved and i'll be able to focus on something else (definitely not multiplayer).

To sum up: for now, the game is suspended until further notice. There will be no Facebook, no Discord, which was originally planned, because i'm redirecting my attention to other things.

PS. I think everything has been explained, but if you have any questions, please write in the comments.
