Unending Universe #1

Hi everyone,

It's time to introduce you to my game Unending Universe. It's a game set in space, and its background is the conflict between Humans and Lokans. Humans, as we know, are open, friendly and empathetic on one hand, and cruel, arrogant and warlike on the other. Lokans are an intelligent humanoid race from the other end of the Milky Way. They are somewhat similar to humans, but more composed and honorable. Both races meet, at first it's nice and friendly, but all good things don't last forever - there is a conflict over resources (especially ice and water) and the whole idyll goes to hell.

And now a bit from the player's perspective: in the face of mortal danger, you decided to abandon your previous life. You understood that you had to start fighting for the future of your species. After completing basic courses and training, you were sent to an outpost in Earth's orbit (Humans) / a hive in Kaedonia's orbit (Lokans). There are officers/guards waiting for you there to help you complete your training and you will finally be able to fight in a real war.

You go through a short tutorial (so-called Final Trail) in which you learn the basic options of the game. After completing it, you receive new tasks and set off to conquer the universe, for the glory of Humans/Lokans. And so the fun begins...

GAMEPLAY

A space MMO game. The gameplay is based on completing various missions, side quests and upgrading your ships. The number of ships and the level of weaponry are of great importance, but what matters most is skills, speed of reaction and making good decisions.

 GAME WORLD

The entire game takes place in 14 star systems, where the player can find asteroids, comets, drones or war platforms. Moving from one system to another is done using FTL jumps.

FLEET

Currently, each side of the conflict has 12 ships (4 light class, 4 medium class, and 4 heavy class).

 Ship division:

  • multi, i.e. without a specific specialization
  • interceptors, whose features are speed and maneuverability
  • computer support, i.e. based on the strength of on-board electronics
  • dreadnoughts, whose advantage is armor and durability

Each of the ships can be armed in any way. The game has a lot of on-board components (computers, hull or engine elements, mine and missile launchers), which allows you to create a variety of settings. Will yours be effective? It will be seen in combat, but practice makes perfect.

INTERACTION

The player has the ability to create small, temporary parties (squadrons). He can also join a wing (or create his own), which ensures easier communication (you can see the online/offline status of each wing member), faster completion of daily tasks and development (strength in numbers!).

There is also a game chat, which has 4 channels, from private messages to the channel of the entire faction.

 EVENTS

There are currently two permanent events: researching a Mysterious Artifact and the Elemental Portal. Temporary tournaments are also planned (e.g. to extract some raw material), but this will only happen when there are more players.

ABOUT ME

I played Battlestar Galactica Online for about 7, 8 years. It was great fun because I played with great people. After a few good years, it was clear that the game was slowly falling apart. It was clear that people were working on it who had never really played it and had never felt the game. The fall was inevitable and BSGO ended up in the dustbin of history (I know there are private servers, but it's not the same).

When I heard this information, I felt a certain emptiness and after some time I decided to make a game in a similar style. I didn't know Unity, I didn't know anything about coding or 3D modeling, but I had a goal. Today, after more than 5 years, with hindsight, I can honestly admit that it was a bit crazy, because creating a multiplayer game can be a nightmare. Either way, I managed to reach my goal. The game works, is playable and is constantly developing. Will it be interesting for you, will it give you fun? I won't answer these questions, you have to try it and judge for yourself.

It was supposed to be short, but it ended up being a bit longer. I hope I didn't bore you :)

I invite you to discuss and comment. I appreciate all your ideas, comments or criticism.

Until next time.
